How To Plant Your Growing Paper

Growing Paper offers a variety of seed blends, but we’ve chosen Alyssum, also known in Afrikaans as heuningblom — meaning “honey flower.” We couldn’t think of a more fitting bloom. These small, white flowers have a gentle, honey-like fragrance and are beloved by bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. By planting your Growing Paper, you’re helping create a small patch of habitat that truly lives up to its name.

Below you’ll find a simple, step-by-step guide (from the team at Growing Paper) showing you exactly how to plant your Alyssum paper and give it new life.

  • Tear the paper into smaller pieces so it fits easily into your pot.

  • Gently cover the paper with a thin layer of soil — it should still be slightly visible.

  • Alyssum seeds are tiny and love gentle conditions when they're just getting started. While germinating, they prefer bright, indirect light (a sunny windowsill or lightly shaded outdoor spot works well), cool to mild temperatures — ideally 15-22°C and light, consistent moisture.

  • Your Growing Paper should start sprouting within 5 to 14 days.

  • Once your seedlings reach about 10cm in height, you can transplant them into your garden.
