Partnering with Greenpop to Restore Landscapes
Healthy bees begin with healthy landscapes.
That’s why Southern Gold is proud to partner with Greenpop and The Bee Effect through the Trees for Bees programme — a shared initiative that brings pollinator conservation and ecological restoration together.
Through this partnership, our commitment to bees becomes something tangible: indigenous trees planted in South African landscapes, creating valuable forage while contributing to healthier, more resilient ecosystems.
Turning Our Commitment Into Trees
Greenpop brings extensive experience in tree planting and landscape restoration to Trees for Bees, helping turn the programme’s pollinator-focused objectives into meaningful restoration on the ground.
Their approach goes beyond simply counting trees. Greenpop considers the species being planted, the landscapes in which they belong and the long-term ecological value those trees can create.
Together, Greenpop and The Bee Effect bring these elements together through Trees for Bees — connecting the needs of pollinators with thoughtful, practical restoration.
Our Trees at Uilenkraal
Southern Gold’s contribution supports tree planting within the Uilenkraal Forest Restoration Project in the Western Cape, part of Greenpop’s broader Forests for Life programme.
This gives our commitment a landscape we can point to. The trees funded through the growth of Southern Gold become part of a larger restoration effort — contributing valuable forage for pollinators while helping restore indigenous vegetation and biodiversity.
For us, that makes every tree more meaningful. It isn’t simply a number on an impact report; it’s part of a landscape being restored over time.
From Honey to Trees
Southern Gold supports this shared work through a simple commitment: for every 25 kg of honey we sell, we plant one tree.
Our gift boxes go even further: one tree for every 10 small gift boxes sold, every 5 medium gift boxes sold, and every large gift box sold.
It means the growth of Southern Gold can contribute directly to restoring the landscapes on which bees, biodiversity and people depend.
More Than Planting Trees
What resonates with us about Greenpop is their belief that successful restoration is about more than putting trees in the ground.
Their broader work prioritises locally appropriate indigenous species, ecological diversity and long-term resilience, while recognising that every landscape requires its own approach.
That philosophy aligns closely with ours. We don’t want to plant trees simply so we can say that we planted them. We want our contribution to become part of landscapes that can thrive for generations.
Growing Something Bigger
Honey begins with a landscape.
The flowers bees forage from, the ecosystems surrounding their hives and the biodiversity supporting those environments are all connected. Through Trees for Bees, our partnership with Greenpop and The Bee Effect allows Southern Gold to contribute back to that system.
As our business grows, so does that contribution.
Every 25 kg of honey means another tree — connecting the growth of Southern Gold with the restoration of the landscapes that make our honey possible.
