Giveaway Privacy Notice and FAQs

This page explains how Southern Gold Honey (Pty) Ltd handles personal information for its giveaways and answers general questions about participating. The official rules, prize, partner, dates and entry methods for each giveaway appear on that giveaway’s own campaign page.
Giveaway privacy notice
What information do we collect?
When you enter, we collect your name, mobile number and confirmation that you meet the giveaway’s minimum-age requirement. We also record the campaign entered, entry history, the version of the terms you accepted and related operational messages.
We do not ask for your date of birth as part of the standard entry process. If you win, we may request additional information that is reasonably necessary to verify eligibility and deliver the prize.
Why do we use this information?
We use it to administer the giveaway, prevent duplicate or fraudulent entries, calculate confirmed entries, send operational updates, select and verify a winner, fulfil the prize and keep legally required competition records.
Is giveaway entry the same as marketing consent?
No. Entering a giveaway does not subscribe you to marketing. WhatsApp marketing is optional and requires a separate, explicit choice. You may withdraw marketing consent at any time by replying STOP, without affecting valid giveaway entries you have already earned.
Who receives the information?
Information is shared only with service providers that support hosting, security and WhatsApp messaging, and with the relevant giveaway partner when necessary to verify an entry or fulfil a prize. We do not sell personal information.
How long do we keep it?
Competition rules and records required for a promotional competition are retained for at least three years after the competition ends. Other personal information is kept only for as long as necessary for the stated purpose, legal obligations, disputes or security. A marketing opt-out may be retained as a suppression record so that your choice continues to be respected.
How do we protect it?
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect personal information. If this notice changes materially, a new version will be published. The version associated with an entry remains preserved with that campaign’s record.
What are my privacy rights?
You may ask to access or correct your personal information, object to certain processing, request deletion where the law permits it, or withdraw marketing consent. You may contact Southern Gold or lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Frequently asked questions
Who may enter?
The eligibility rules on each campaign page apply. Our current giveaway journey is designed for entrants aged 18 or older. A parent or guardian may enter in their own name, but may not submit an additional entry on behalf of a minor.
Where can I find the rules for a particular giveaway?
Every giveaway has its own campaign page containing the partner, prize, opening and closing dates, eligibility requirements, entry methods and official terms. Use the campaign link supplied at entry or in the relevant WhatsApp message.
How are entries confirmed?
Your campaign message shows your confirmed entry total. Additional entries are included only after the relevant action has been completed and successfully verified.
Can I enter more than one giveaway?
Yes, provided you meet the eligibility requirements for each campaign. Your entries are recorded separately for each giveaway.
How is a winner selected?
The winner is selected from eligible confirmed entries using the method stated in that campaign’s official terms. Southern Gold verifies eligibility before confirming and awarding the prize.
How will the winner be contacted?
The winner will be contacted using the details supplied during entry. Southern Gold will never ask a winner to pay a fee to receive a giveaway prize.
What happens after a giveaway closes?
The campaign closes to new entries and its records and official terms are preserved. The campaign’s closing and winner-announcement process follows its specific terms.
